Thank you for being ready to jump into action and testify. This was just put out by COKID.
For those of you who are interested in supporting the 23-181 Dyslexia Screening bill, please keep up-to-date with the information by joining COKIDs posts. Apparently the times/expectations keep changing. They are hoping to update the information tonight. https://www.facebook.com/COKID.info #vsarocks
We just learned that SB23-181 will be heard during Senate Education Committee Hearings on Monday starting at 1:30pm!
We would like to ask you to join us to show why this bill is so desperately needed in Colorado and how the current reading legislation is not working for our kids.
Please come and speak for those who cannot and share your experiences!
We will share more tomorrow on how to give testimony both in person (which is the most impactful) and remotely. Look for upcoming details!
We need you, and more importantly, Colorado's kids need you.#vsarocks #untileverychildreads
We are so lucky to have two amazing artists teach our kids. Mr. Adam worked on collages this week with the kids. They learned about Katy Hirschfeld and her work with collages.
Ms. Kathryn worked on pencil drawing where the kids drew a ripped paper optical illusion drawing. They also discussed MC Escher in relation to this type of illustration. #vsarocks #vsaKidsareCreative #DyslexicArtists
Today the whole school got to hear a story read by our own student Ben, who wrote this graphic novel! Each student received a copy of it. Who knows, maybe some day he will become a published author like Dav Pilkey? #vsarocks #dyslexicreadingandwriting #storywriting #thenextdavpilkey?
We are proud to announce that our students won the Great Reading Games Challenge from Learning Ally! VSA was over 100,000 ahead of the nearest competitor! The total number of pages we read was 54,181 with 29 students!!! We have amazing readers. Because they won, the students will be getting a TBD field trip the last week of May! Please congratulate your student for all the great reading they have done.
VSA had a great day participating in Read Across America today. We had some kids dress up as their favorite book characters and everyone read throughout the day! The teachers ended up all wearing red shirts (unplanned) and ended up becoming all of the Cat in the Hat “things 1-6!” Plus we had a Cat in the hat teacher. #vsarocks #readingrocks #dyslexiaeducation #readacrossamerica
Tomorrow is Read Across America Day. Students at VSA are able to dress up as their favorite character, bring a blanket, and their favorite book. We will be spending time throughout the day enjoying the love of reading! #vsarocks #readacrossamerica #untileverychildcanread
4 years ago, VSA went to the State Capitol for the hearing on HB19-1134, the dyslexia bill for Colorado. 11 kids from the school gave testimony of their stories with Dyslexia. There were tears in the audience as they spoke. The Committee members were amazed by their poise and well thought out testimony and questions to the Representatives as to why the State doesn't already have laws necessary to screen, identify and remediate the 1 in 5 kids with Dyslexia, like them, by using multi sensory structured literacy, like Orton Gillingham. our kids made a difference!!! #vsarocks
